We live on on island in the Åland archipelago. The farm has a sea-view and there is a chicken house and a small stable with room for the hens during the winter. We also have 12 beehives. About 500 metres away lay the big stable where the horses stay.

Kaj works as headmaster on Kumlinge school, in his spare time he works on the fields that belongs to the farm, does some fishing and takes care of the horses. Mia works with equality and youth work and also some folk education. All the children live in different places, at the moment Emelie lives on Åland, Sissel in England and Yrla in Uppsala. However, they all return to Kumlinge for at least a couple of days every year.

From house to farm

The number of animals has increased during the years in our family. We got the cat Nisse in 1992. Then some hens. After that we got our first dog, a smålandsstövare, Danne. He did not funcion well with our family unfortunately so we had to replace him. Instead we got Krut. We also hade some rabbits during that time. Then Curry the cat entered our lives. Emelie wanted a horse, but it was decided that she and a friend would borrow a donkey to see how they would handle it and that's how Gunnar arrived. After a year with Gunnar it was decided that Emelie was capable and the horse Glory was bought.

I connection with the acquisition  of Glory out neighbours decided ti get a horse. With the addition of another horse the family decided to buy the neighbouring farm with it's accompanying stables, which were renovated and modernized. Now that we had a prober stable we also started to make our own hay.

Yrla wanted a dog now that Emelie had got a horse and that's how the rescue dig Nalle came to us. When Emelie moved to Sweden to continue her studies Glory came along. That meant that Gunnar was without company and thus Donke was bought.

The pony Vesta was retiring from our old riding school, so we decided to take her in for some light forest riding. About the same time it was decided that Glory would return home for retirement. Sadly Vesta had to be put down only a year after she came to Hasslebo. We started looking for a new horse to ride and Moses was chosen. The third dog, the poodle Ziva is mainly Emelie's and is therefore living in Sweden for most of the time. In 2012 we acquired the nordlandshäst Luna who is a riding and driving horse for the whole family.

For the moment there are a donkey, Hasse, an island hors Hera and the mule Donke living in the stable
